TV girls gather support for change in prostitution law


A petition calling for prostitution to be made illegal in Ireland garnered the support of members of the public when Transition Year students in St Mary’s Secondary School took to the streets of New Ross last week seeking signatures.


The girls are calling for the law to be changed to explicitly make prostitution in Ireland illegal.

As part of their Young Social Innovators project, 42 transition year students from St Mary’s Secondary School are concentrating on raising awareness about human trafficking and prostitution in their project entitled ‘Hidden Faces, Hidden Places’.

The girls spent part of last Monday afternoon at various locations around New Ross seeking signatures for their petition aimed at making prostitution illegal in Ireland. The girls are very passionate about this issue and are very grateful to everyone who signed the petition and helped them with their project.

During the course of their project so far a variety of guest speakers, including Lisa Mcdonald, Sister Catherine Dunne and Mary Crilly from the Sexual Violence Centre in Cork, have spoken to the girls on the subject of human trafficking and prostitution.
