The team pitched for funding in order to produce a book on poverty. The Department of Education ad Self Help Africa have offered to make the Poverty Week activity into a resource and hopefully implemented into curriculums across all schools.

The students sought funding to create a history wall in the square to create a strong sense of pride of place for its residents.

YSI Den Pitch:
The students required funding towards the development of a booklet containing FACTS on HIV/AIDS, pictures, quotations and personal stories from people living with HIV. They also sought funding for a mural in their school and in Kaoma Community School in Zambia, who they have partnered with.

The team was awarded €1000 towards the cost of producing banners, leaflets and wall murals.

YSI Den Pitch:
Having secured the support of the Aviva Driving School, which holds 80% of the market share in this age group, to provide a lesson specifically on peer pressure, the group sought funds to hold an event called ‘Overtake’ aimed at young people, both current and potential drivers and their parents to raise awareness of this issue.

The group were provided €300 towards developing the framework of their event, so that it could be developed further and rolled out to other schools.
Missing Persons
Davis College, Mallow, Co. Cork
YSI Den Pitch:
The team sought funding for the production of their calendar which highlighted missing persons in Ireland over the 12 months of the year. They had already secured the support of a national retailer that offered to sell it in their stores nationwide, as well as the backing of all the families of the persons displayed in the calendar.

The team was awarded €1200 towards the production of the Missing Persons calendar.
Hairless Whisper

YSI Den Pitch:
The group sought funds to raise money to buy and run a Paxman cooling machine which allows patients to undergo chemotherapy without the hair loss side effect.

The group were provided €1,500 for running costs of the machine for one year.
Bridging the Digital Divide- Senior I.T.izens
Davis College, Summerhill, Mallow, Co.Cork
YSI Den Pitch:
The team were pitching for funding for pendant alarms for all the people in the sheltered housing units as they were concerned for the safety of their participants given the increase in the number of attacks on the elderly as well as accidents in their own homes. They also wanted funding for new laptops to present to the participants of the IT programme.

In the YSI Den they were seeking €1000 and marketing advice. At the end of their pitch they said ‘we believe in it so we’re acting on it’ - they really got the essence of YSI. Their booklet won an innovation award in the North Cork Enterprise competition and so other agencies are now seeing how valuable their contribution can be.
