Teachers & Educators

We know that young people have the potential to make a massive difference to the world in which they live, but they cannot do this alone. Although the YSI model of social innovation is youth led, young people need the support and guidance of their educators to create effective and lasting change. YSI acknowledges the fundamental role of the educator in the social innovation process.

Our strength is you, the teachers who support young people to get involved and make a difference to the world around them.

Why Get Involved?

It’s not only young people who benefit from participation. Educators also benefit professionally and personally

Niamh Sheridan
Niamh Sheridan, YSI Guide and Trainer
Being a Guide has given me some of the highlights of my teaching career. I always say that but it’s true. I have seen students blossom, grow and develop, tackle issues and really make a difference. There’s been good times and bad times, but there’s always learning and they love it. So I feel very lucky to be part of it.

YSI nurtures creativity, it ignites arguments, discussions, emotions and it places the students very much as the designers of their own work. YSI recognises that young people are an untapped force who have ideas and opinions. It encourages the student to be a full participant in their education rather than a passive observer. I have seen more needs of the 21st century learner met through YSI than other curricula.

I am incredibly inspired by the students I have had the honour of mentoring this year for YSI. I feel that I have gained immensely from engaging with this project and have learned so much from them just by letting them take the lead and helping them reach their full potential.
