What is a YSI project?
A YSI project is work young people do to improve the lives of people in society or in local communities. It is led by young people and carried out in a way that is:
Respectful: Shows respect for all people.
Empowering: Young people pick the issue; they lead the work and they decide and carry out the action.
Fair: Treats everyone fairly and is concerned with justive and equality for everyone.
Innovative: Looks at the world in new ways and changes the existing situation
Fun: Enjoys working on the project
Experiential: Test ideas through action - believing and acting.
A YSI social action project is a way for young people to make radical innovative suggestions and take actions for change that can make a real difference to people's lives, including their own. A young social innovator is someone who helps create change i nhow we live, think and care for others in society - someone who helps to change the world for good.

What are the benefits for young people?
There are all sorts of benefits for young people, personally, socially and academically. Working as part of a team is an invaluable experience and young people can develop their own skills and talents while working to achieve the team's goals. YSI project work can take participants beyond the confines of the group, allowing them to talk with other interesting people and gain insights into the economic, poltical, social structures and enterprises of our world. It can also open up new career choices!
