Aim:
This module aims to support Student Councils to represent the interests of young people in their school community. Participants will explore the value of youth voice and participation and recognise how their own agency can give them control over the social issues that affect their school community. It introduces concepts related to social innovation, as well as, some methods, and practical applications. Participants will gain practical leadership, facilitation and communication skills to work positively and effectively with other students, staff and school management.
By the end of this module participants will be able to:
- Explain social innovation, social justice, and sustainable development.
- Recognise the importance of youth voice and participation in the school community.
- Discuss how they can identify and represent the views of the broader school community.
- Identify and discuss a range of social issues they care about.
- Create potential solutions to some of the issues identified.
- Value their roles as social innovators and recognise that what they do matters.
