The aim of the Department of Health is to improve the health and well-being of people in Ireland in a manner that promotes better health for everyone, fair access, responsive and appropriate care delivery, and high performance. It also has a role in the strategic planning of health services. Information on a variety of health issues is available from the Department and there are useful links to other organisations from its website.
This website provides information and support on drugs, alcohol and smoking and has produced a number of educational resources for young people, educators and parents. The Drugs.ie website contains a collection of reports related to drug, alcohol addiction and general health from European and global health organisations, including the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Health Service Executive (HSE)
The Health Service Executive (HSE) is a large organisation of over 100,00 people, whose job is to run all of the public health services in Ireland. Its website provides information about all of the health services provided.
Mind our Minds
The Mind Our Minds website tells the story of Young Social Innovators (YSI) projects, led by teams of young social innovators, which have promoted positive mental health such as CAST film festival. The website also contains useful resources including videos and posters created by YSI teams.
Spun Out's vision is to help create an Ireland where young people aged between 16 and 25 are empowered with the information they need to live active, happy, and healthy lives. Its aim is to educate and inform young people about the importance of holistic wellbeing and how good health can be maintained, both physically and mentally.
National Youth Health Programme
The National Youth Health Programme is a partnership between the National Youth Council of Ireland, the Health Service Executive and the Department of Children and Youth Affairs. Many publications available to download covering topics such as mental health, suicide, sexual health, drugs and alcohol.
