Young Social Innovators
Young Social Innovators (YSI) is a dynamic not for profit education charity.
Thousands of young people volunteer and take on the YSI Challenge each year to tackle a social issue that they feel passionately about. To support this, we provide a busy schedule of programmes for young people and educators as well as organising regional and national events every year.
With support from our funders, Tomar Trust and the Department of Education Dormant Accounts Fund, YSI is targeting regions across Ireland in a new initiative which will enable increasing numbers of young people and schools, to engage in youth-led social innovation in local areas. In these regions, literally thousands more young people will be supported to turn their ideas into actio
This is an exciting initiative, which promises to have real impact on both young people’s education while empowering local populations to address the many challenges facing them in a fast-changing world.

The Opportunity
Social innovation provides an effective and powerful way to engage young people and communities in addressing the local, national and global challenges facing us and contributing to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to which Ireland is committed. Increasing the capacity of people in local areas around social innovation will help communities respond to such challenges. YSI is now inviting students in post-primary schools in targeted geographic regions to explore social issues and strengthen themselves and their communities’ capacity to respond and bring about change.
This initiative will enable all students in these areas to get involved, use their insights, skills, abilities and the tools or resources available to them, to engage in social innovation and respond to the challenges they face today in their local community. Students will have an opportunity to explore challenges such as the environment, mental and physical health, climate change, diversity and inclusion, accessibility, equality, local facilities and much more.
