The Idea

The team sought to stamp out homophobic abuse in their own communities by raising awareness of the effects such bullying has on others.

Homophobia was the issue selected because they felt a lot of teens are homophobic towards gay people.

The Action

The class began by discussing what social issues exist in society today and from that an ideas wall was established outlining reasons for picking a topic. After discussion and deliberation homophobia was decided.

A Facebook page was created and posters received from BeLonG To were displayed around the school.

The students acknowledged the BeLonG To information during the Stand Up Campaign week in March.

Research was carried out using Gok Wan (fashion advisor) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and a survey was circulated to students within the school.

The Impact

Links were made with David Clarke and Paul Cullen, representatives from Gay Youth Wexford and the SPHE department.
