Hunger for Health

Hunger for Health

Tullamore College, Co. Offaly

2015

The Idea

The aim of this project is to promote healthy living so that is seen as less than a chore and more as a lifestyle choice.

The Action

The Hunger for Health team organised a whole school Healthy Living Week with a range of talks, demonstrations and activities promoting physical and mental health. The team organised many fundraising activities including selling tickets to a 5k obstacle course. In order to promote healthy eating, the team have stopped selling chocolate one day a week in the school shop, instead selling fruit every day. A school health promotion team has been established and activities arranged include:  a school marathon, a darts challenge, a crossbar challenge and an Operation Transformation project. The team ran 6k three times a week for six weeks, completing a 5k run with the local running club.

The Impact

The Hunger for Health team have almost reached their target of raising €12,000. The funds raised will be used to build a free outdoor gym. The project team will ensure that this fundraising target is reached and that their outdoor gym becomes a reality.
