The Idea

The Mind Your Mind project team want to raise awareness and show people that depression is a serious issue in teenagers. They want to show others that they care about each other’s mental health, and to highlight the fact that help is available.

The Action

The group members wanted to come up with ways to ‘mind your mind’. They organised a ‘natural buzz’ week, where activities were arranged to prove that people can have fun without being under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Some of those activities included ice skating, mindfulness and doing random acts of kindness. They also worked with support services including Jigsaw and Console and organised information sessions from My Mental Health, ReachOut.com and Western Region Drugs Advisory Board. The project team wrote a rap and with help from Galway Community College produced a music video. They also created an information booklet.

The Impact

The project team will continue to look after themselves by talking about how they feel and by keeping mentally healthy. They hope to inspire others, and plan to distribute their booklet to other Youthreach centres as well as share their music video with other young people.
