The Idea

The goal of the team’s project is to help combat depression and anxiety in today’s society by encouraging positive mental health. The team aspired to help transform people’s outlook on life by encouraging positive thinking in everyday life.

The Action

The team worked with many people and organisations: Seamus Whitty from Kerry Life Education, Bank of Ireland and Holy Family primary school, Jigsaw and Pieta House, nutritionist Aisling Fitzgibbon, Life Coach Connor Santry and Eric Lassard, the world’s youngest motivational speaker. They liaised with journalists, photographers and local business people to promote their project.

They have taken actions to combat depression and anxiety by organising a Colour Fun Run. They sold Candy Canes in their school that students could buy for each other as a Random Act of Kindness, they had a stall in a Bank of Ireland branch where they gave out Kindness Tokens to customers. On Valentine’s Day the team handed out Valentines cards with uplifting messages to their schoolmates.

The Impact

In the future, the team plan to link up and work with Ulster Bank for their ‘Motivational Fortnight’. They are also currently working on developing an app which will generate a new positive message each day. They are planning to host a meditation class with art therapy, and a sports day to promote exercise as an antidote to depressive disorders for Transition Year classes.
