The Idea

Continuing the work of last year’s team in promoting the importance of the 3 R’s, Recognise, Report and Rest, this year’s Step Up project team wants to educate young people at a national level about the dangers of concussion. The team believes that every young person has the right to a safe sporting environment, and to understand his/her rights as a player when it comes to concussion prevention.

The Action

To extend and enhance the existing Without Your Brain, You Have No Game campaign, the project team’s innovative response was to design and produce a concussion awareness logo for sportswear, promote its use at schools' level and with all sports organisations in Tipperary. The team organised a local concussion awareness poster competition supported by sporting celebrities e.g. Paul McGrath and Alan Quinlan; they set up a Facebook page and organised a Concussion Awareness Week.

The Impact

Without Your Brain, You Have No Game continues to educate people about the dangers of concussion to young sports players. The team has designed concussion awareness workshops for Primary schools, and is currently working with Vodafone to create a website and app. The team has contributed to a proposed Government Taskforce on concussion in sport and is developing an education pack for national distribution.
