We want to change how students deal with and cope with daily mental health and wellbeing issues like depressive moods, anxiety etc through an awareness campaign and events.

Our Social Issue

The Mental health and Wellbeing struggles that teenagers deal with daily.

Why We Chose It

The issue that we want to deal with is mental health- specifically Youth Mental Health. We believe that this issue is important in today's society as many of us know people struggling with their own mental health. They might not be aware of the services that are available, and we want to highlight this. From our research, we found that services like Pieta House are used by many people. Pieta house has supported over 70,000 people since 2006. In 2022 they received almost 100,000 calls and texts from people in need.

Our Goal

Our main goals: 1. Help to raise awareness and educate the students of our school to highlight Mental Health as an issue in today's society through a poster campaign. 2. Organise a Wellbeing Week with whole-school, in-class and lunchtime events and activities, which would give students ideas and tools to help them mind their mental health. 3. We want to earn an Amber Flag for our school, through these events. 4. We hope to raise money for Pieta House through future events.

Our Innovative Action

Our main action was our Wellbeing Week, in which we ran an awareness campaign and events that will help support good mental health. This included- a poster campaign and Wellbeing Week notice board. Our events were- lunchtime colouring, karaoke, Just Dance, Worry Jar, Wellbeing Bookmarks and Words of Affirmation. We also had Yoga and Wellbeing Walks for each year group.

Our Impact

Our Wellbeing week was very successful- the majority of our students felt the postitive difference from the events that were held. Each student was given an opportunity to participate in at least one event, which meant the reach for our campaign was school-wide. It was suggested by the Student Council that we maintain a number of the initiatives that were run- like Karaoke and Music being played in the corridors to breaks for a 'Feel Good Friday'. We feel that these were very positive changes and influences
