Why We Chose It

Mental Health is an important issue facing secondary schools. From a survey we did 33% felt they had symptoms of anxiety at one point. We wanted to concentrate on the simply things we could do for prioritise mental health in our school. We wanted to create a positive atmosphere in school where all students felt their mental health was a priority for example leading innovative ideas like the house system and the mental health jumper.

Our Goal

To run Wellbeing Week to improve the mental health and wellbeing of our school To create a house system To hold a story exchange with students To raise money and have fun fundraising for Charities that help people and improve the wellbeing of those in need. To design a jumper with the words Yera I'm grand on the front and on back it says but are you really grand to create more awareness around the school about the fact that people are covering up their real feelings and to promote more real talk amongsourpeers

Our Innovative Action

We held a story exchange where students shared stories about themselves to create empathy We created a house system in school to foster relationships across the student cohort and create unity amongst us We designed a mental health jumper to get students speaking and opening up conversation We ran Wellbeing Week to create a sense of positivity We raised money for charities to improve the lives of people and improve mental health We held a positive post it day We held a Talent Show

Our Impact

We held a Story Exchange where 1st years and TY students shared their stories about themselves to create a strong since of empathy96% of the students that participated in it said it thought them social and emotional skills and improved wellbeing. We held a Wellbeing Week an Each day had a theme: e.g., ‘Tasty Tuesday’, ‘and ‘Feel Good Friday. ’ From our survey students 89% of students reported that their sense of wellbeing increased. We created a house system in school where everybody in the whole school is put into a team it has created Raised moneyforcharities
