Anne Byrne, YSI Board Member

Anne is the CEO of LGBT Ireland, having previously served as Director of People, Strategy and Innovation at the Irish Cancer Society. Before joining the not-for-profit sector, Anne worked in management consulting, focusing on public sector strategy, organisation design and innovation. Anne began their career in industrial relations after graduating with a BA (Mod) in Business and Political Science from Trinity College Dublin. Originally from Kildare, Anne now lives in Dublin with their wife.

Why I’m here:
Because I have an immense belief in the capability, creativity and compassion of young people, and want to support an organisation that enables them to see and use their power. 

Favourite thing about the organisation:
How central young people are to the work of YSI - it is not an organisation for young people, it is an organisation with and by them. 

What does YSI’s mission mean to me:
It means empowering a generation, to be leaders for good

What gives me hope:
The determination of the young people I meet through YSI - current participants, youth advisors, alumni - and their clarity of vision for a just world. 

When I’m not doing this:
I am being educated on Pokemon, KATSEYE, farm machinery, and everything in between, by my niblings and god-children; pottering about my tiny garden; or spending time cooking (although I never follow a recipe). I also love fringe theatre - the more experimental and interactive the better!
