Our Experience at YSI

By Amelie.

Walking into the YSI office for our week of work experience, we were filled with a mix of nerves and excitement. And all we had an idea about was a few workshops but it was so much more than that and we got to learn and accomplish so much in just five days.

From the very start, we felt welcomed and structured, every day began with a clear overview of what we would be doing, with all our tasks and workshops listed out. This immediate clarity wiped away any initial worries and allowed us to fully focus on absorbing every moment. The week was packed with different activities, and we were thrilled to get to complete multiple workshops that challenged us in the best way possible.

These sessions weren't just theoretical, they were hands-on and practical, providing really critical for understanding our own role within the team/groups we were sorted into. We learned by doing, which is the most powerful way to learn. It was incredibly rewarding to see our contributions take shape through the week since they were always looking for any feedback from us for anything and everything.

This week taught us more than just professional skills, it taught us about workplace culture, communication, and our own potential. We’re leaving with new confidence, practical knowledge, and a much clearer vision for our futures.

But beyond the tasks and workshops, the most valuable part of our experience was the people. We had the genuine pleasure to talk with each of the crew from YSI, learning about the company in general directly from the source. We really enjoyed it overall, especially hearing about  their past work experiences and how they worked up to their current position. Their stories were not only inspiring but also gave us a realistic and motivating roadmap for our own future careers. It was a powerful reminder that everyone's journey is unique.
