Open Call to Teenagers: Getting Started

Combined Shape Created with Sketch.

We recognise that COVID-19 has changed the way we live, work, learn, connect, communicate, travel and care for each other. We know that young people have plenty of ideas about how to tackle these challenges in new and creative ways.

No idea is too big or too small! You can work on your own or with your family, friends or classmates and YSI will be there to support you all the way.

EVERYONE can be an innovator. You probably innovate all the time but don’t realise it. Basically, innovators are problem solvers. They consider a problem and see an opportunity to make a difference.

As an innovator tackling a problem related to Covid-19, you will follow a pathway. We call it a pathway of change. The journey begins with a problem you see and ends with a response or solution that you create to the problem.

Interestingly, very few ideas are totally new - it could be that you see a solution used for something else and you decide it could be used to solve the problem you are addressing. Or you’ve seen something that has been done in another country and you think it could be adapted for Ireland.

We need creative thinkers and innovators at this time of crisis.

What Themes Could You Think About?

Your Open Call to Teenagers Resource Pack contains activities to help you explore and identify issues you might want to help tackle. The issue you choose is up to you! There are so many unique situations affecting individuals, families and communities all over the country - you might already have a problem in mind. You may want to consider tackling an issue under one of the themes below.

Once you sign up, your resource pack will be on its way and YSI's team will send you weekly tips and offer support as you come up with and develop your idea. Once you're ready, you can submit your idea anytime before 31st May 2020. All those who submit will be in entered into a weekly draw for €50 online vouchers.

If you have any questions, just email our team at educate@youngsocialinnovators.ie and we'll be happy to help!
