Our Social Issue

Caring for Animals and life on land.

Why We Chose It

We chose this social issue because we think that most animal shelters do not provide sufficient care for their animals. Some only care about the money they can make from these animals, not the animals themselves. Our goal was to demonstrate to the public that these animals are more than just sources of income; we wanted them to be understood as beings with feelings deserving of compassion and kindness. We asked that the individuals who take these animals into the shelters treat them with the same consideration as if they were their own household pets.

Our Goal

The goal we had for the YSI project was to generate a lot of money to donate to animal shelters in need around Ireland. Our goal was to improve the conditions for the animals staying at animal shelters. Helping the owners of these shelters by providing extra food, toys, and other necessities, and perhaps even creating a play area for them nearby. Given the extra food and toys they can purchase, perhaps some of them will be able to take in more animals.

Our Innovative Action

We started by doing a bake sale every day from Monday through Thursday throughout the school week. The bake sales were held at lunch at our school. Three people arrived each day with different baked goods to sell. During lunchtime, we organised a football game for the junior section of the school. Each person wishing to participate in the match had to pay €2.

Our Impact

We have made a positive difference as we have raised money to help animals in shelters and homes so they can live better lives with the funds can provide for them by the help of our peers and classmates as we worked together as a group to do this good thing for the animals
