We want to make young women aware of the types of cancers that can commonly affect them. We aim to raise awareness of these types of cancers and to educate women as to how they can be prevented. We also want to make people aware of the the work that charities to do help people who are experiencing cancer, for example, the Irish Cancer Society and the Marie Keating Foundation.
Our Social Issue
We have chosen to look at women's health and issues that affect young women's lives for example breast cancer, cervical cancer and skin cancer.

Why We Chose It
We chose skin cancer and breast cancer because they are the cancers that affect young women our age the most. We chose this social issue because we think that a lot of girls our age don’t know what can cause skin and breast cancer. Many people don’t know the danger of using a sun bed and how much it increases your risk of getting skin cancer. We want to help protect young women from these cancers and tell them how they can be safer and more responsible in the future.

Our Goal
Our big idea and main goal in our project is to make young women aware of what can cause skin and breast cancer, ways to prevent it, how to safely and accurately self check yourself for these cancers and what to do if you think you have something and how to access treatment. We hope that we educate lots of girls about unknown risks and ways to prevent these cancers so they can be safer in the future.

Our Innovative Action
We have taken action by starting off the project with making a presentation about raising awareness in breast cancer and skin cancer. We preformed this presentation for multiple classes with young women! At the end of that week we then organised a bake sale to raise money for Irish Cancer Society. We achieved our goal and we made €297 to donate to the foundation. We also had a talk by a representative from the Marie Keating foundation, which was interesting as we got to ask questions for our project.

Our Impact
We have made a positive difference to people through communication as asking questions to the representative from the Marie Keating Foundation gave her more confidence into how we enjoyed it. We also had our bake sale which changed the mood of many that day, while preforming our presentations people were delighted to hear the more useful information that they can now look out for.
