‘Affected by Addiction’ from Mount Mercy College in Cork were awarded €600 to help develop and promote their book featuring the real life experiences of adults who were affected by addiction as children. The group were campaigning for better services for young people affected by addiction in the home and they wanted to create resources to help their peers living with an addict parent or relative.

What is the YSI Den?

As part of our commitment to helping teams increase the impact of their work, we created the Den as a mechanism through which support could be requested by and granted to young people.

A Social Innovation Fund which is supported by YSI and our new partner Ulster Bank is made available to teams who successfully pitch for assistance to support or develop an idea, product or enterprise.

In 2015, €10,000 as well as mentoring and practical supported was granted to YSI teams. Read more here

What can teams ask for?

Money: Teams can request financial support. The average funding received is between 300-500 euros. Successful teams will receive 80% of allocated funds at the Den and the remaining 20% when they complete a brief update report and provide receipts.

Means / Mentoring: Teams can request a specific support that would allow them to progress their project. For example they may ask for help to build a relationship the YSI can help instigate. They also want practical guidance or support to carry out a specific action e.g. organising an event. They may also want advice in a particular area e.g. PR, marketing or budgeting that YSI or Ulster Bank can help to offer.

What happens if our application is successful?

Following a successful application, a maximum of three representatives will be invited to pitch to a panel who will decide on the allocation of the fund. Two Den pitching events will take place in 2016 on the following dates:

23rd February: YSI Den Dublin
25th February: YSI Den Cork
