YSI Programme Partner Zambia: Dialogue for Development, Religious Sisters of Charity, Lusaka
YSI Programme Coordinator Zambia Claudia Mwansa Chipimo

The Religious Sisters of Charity are a group of Religious Women committed to young people’s rights and under their programme entitled ‘Dialogue for Development’. They have embarked on a programme that is especially targeted at addressing Child Protection issues. They want to ensure that children know their rights and are enabled to enjoy them.

The Sisters of Charity connection to YSI goes back to its beginning when Sr Pereka, one of the Sisters who lived at that time in Ireland and worked with the Immigrant Council of Ireland, volunteered with YSI at different times. Understanding the value of social innovation education, when she returned to Zambia she wanted to help bring it to students and teachers there in support of civic education amongst youth.

Following a visit from Sr Stan and one of our Education Officers in 2014 and the great support of Sr Clare and her colleagues in Lusaka, the Sisters are supporting the YSI International Awards Programme for students and teachers in Zambia. YSI hosted our Programme Co-ordinator, Claudia, in January 2020 when she met many of our teachers and students.
