Abbie could see how isolated her grandparents were and she wanted to do something to cheer them up. She visited them with her brothers, while maintaining social distancing, and was inspired with her idea for the #YSIOpenCall.

Her idea is for young people to help cheer up people who are isolated at this time, with singing or music, if they can play an instrument, from a safe distance of course.

If living close by to elderly or isolated people, she suggests groups of young people could stand outside and perform, a bit like carol singers at Christmas.

Or if young people have friends or family who are isolated and they don’t live close to them, she suggests they record voice messages or video or their performances to send to them.

Keeping in touch and helping to put a smile on someone’s face right now is important, and small acts of kindness can do that.
